To answer the perennial question of, “What’s new with you this week?” Tubi TV can say, “Plenty.” Whether you like weird horror-comedies, romantic dramas, social satires, or something else entirely, we have a film that will keep you entertained today. Why you should watch: A love affair with a traveling salesman (Viggo Mortensen) awakens the libido of a Brooklyn housewife (Diane Lane) in this grown-up romance directed by Scandal‘s Tony Goldwyn. Lane and Mortensen are incredibly sexy and sweet, while the film allows a teenage Anna Paquin (already an Oscar winner) to really shine.
Why you should watch: Other films would be content to be just one half of this cult favorite’s oddball premise: Elvis (he’s alive! and played by Bruce Campbell) is in a Texas nursing home with a man who believes himself to be JFK (the much-missed Ossie Davis). However, this awesomely weird movie from Phantasm‘s Don Coscarelli has them fighting the evil, soul-sucking mummy of the title.
Why you should watch: If you loved Laura Dern in Big Little Lies (didn’t we all?), watch her in this controversial comedy from director Alexander Payne (Sideways, The Descendants). Dern stars as Ruth Stoops, a pregnant drug addict who finds herself caught between pro-choice and pro-life groups who want to use her as a symbol for their respective movements. This satire takes on an issue that isn’t generally explored on screen with a biting approach that spares no one.
