Welcome to Freaky Friday, our (new!) ongoing series that highlights our extensive, awesome horror collection on Tubi TV. Whether you like slasher sequels, moody foreign films, or creepy comedies, we’ve got the movie for your tastes. This week, we’re sharing our love of The Blair Witch Project, the low-budget blockbuster that sparked the found footage trend.
Without this modern horror classic, we might not have gotten Paranormal Activity, REC, Cloverfield, or even What We Do in the Shadows. Almost 20 years have passed since the original terrified audiences, and it’s worth a rewatch–or a first viewing.
In The Blair Witch Project, three young filmmakers hike the Maryland forest to make a movie about the legend of the title. They get a little closer to the folklore than they thought possible, as revealed in the camera footage discovered a year after their disappearance. The documentary style of the film makes it feel extra real and unsettling, like you’re the one being chased through the trees or hearing sounds around your tent.
