Alden Ehrenreich

Star Wars fans, meet your new Han Solo, Alden Ehrenreich! The Hail, Caesar! star will play a younger version of the space scoundrel in Disney’s stand-alone Star Wars flick.

Ehrenreich has just landed one of the most coveted gigs in Hollywood. Ansel Elgort, Logan Lerman, Dave Franco, Miles Teller, and Scott Eastwood were among the fresh-faced, 20-somethings up for the part. In April, Deadline reported that Ehrenreich was the frontrunner for the role, and on Thursday night, Ehrenreich’s involvement with the project was confirmed.

So far, the young actor has had a pretty remarkable career. He has only been working for about 10 years and has already been in films by Woody Allen, the Coen brothers, and Francis Ford Coppola. Oh, and he was discovered by Steven Spielberg — the director saw a video of Ehrenreich in a bat mitzvah skit, which eventually led to an appearance on the TV series Supernatural.

This solo Solo film will be about Kylo Ren’s papa pre-A New Hope and is expected to be called Han Solo: A Star Wars Story. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller — the duo behind the 21 Jump Street reboot franchise — will direct. No details about the film’s story have been revealed at this point, but it would be nice to see Solo in the Millennium Falcon, attempting to make the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs.

The Han Solo movie is set to hit theaters May 25, 2018.
