Former republican presidential candidate and senator Ted Cruz is a big movie buff. Back in 2015, he was filmed quoting The Princess Bride (much to the displeasure of Princess Bride star Mandy Patinkin). And now, he’s comparing rival Donald Trump to Biff Tannen, the bully from the Back to the Future films.
Speaking to Indiana voters on Tuesday, the White House hopeful used his vast knowledge of ’80s films to paint a picture of what a Trump presidency might look like.
“If anyone has seen the movie Back to the Future II, the screenwriter says that he based the character Biff Tannen on Donald Trump — a caricature of a braggadocios, arrogant buffoon who builds giant casinos with giant pictures of him everywhere he looks. We are looking potentially at the Biff Tannen presidency.”
The comparison between Trump and Biff isn’t totally off base (though according to snopes.com, the Biff backstory that Cruz describes might not be completely true), but the fact that Cruz thought that simply highlighting the similarities would make Trump — the current front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination — a less desirable candidate to supporters is very strange. The real estate developer’s fanbase are a true blue crew. The only way to stop a real-life Biff is with manure. He hates manure.[THR]
