A 25-year-old Brooklyn man has just set a new Guinness World Record for TV binge-watching. Yes, watching hours upon hours of television is something that can earn you a spot in the record books. Alejandro “AJ” Fragoso spent a whopping 94 hours watching back-to-back episodes of Game of Thrones, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Battlestar Galactica, Adventure Time, Bob’s Burgers, and The Twilight Zone. The marathon binge was sponsored by CyberLink, a multimedia software company.
Though kicking back and watching TV for approximately four days seems like a totally chill time, Fragoso discovered that it’s a lot more difficult than you’d think:
Throughout this process, I learned that binge-watching TV for abnormally long durations can actually be quite physically taxing.
That seems like an understatement when you consider that Fragoso and the other binge-watchers participating in the stunt were only allowed five-minute breaks every hour. Their eyes also had to stay fixed on the screen the entire time they were watching the shows.
Fragoso, who beat the previous 92-hour record that was set by five Austrians in March, chalks up his endurance to his Mediterranean diet.[Variety, Vice]
We don’t recommend watching 94 straight hours of TV. An hour here or there? Now, that’s more like it.
